When you think of Mazda, you probably imagine stylish crossovers and athletic performance, but the automaker doesn’t sacrifice safety for fun. And based on evaluations from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the safest automaker of 2020 is none other than Mazda, as more of its models earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating than any other brand.
In order to earn this coveted rating, a vehicle needs to have headlights that earn an “Acceptable” or “Good” rating, as well as an “Advanced” or better front accident detection and avoidance system. Plus, the car needs to score a grade of “Good” or better in a series of various crash tests.
Mazda boasts five models with the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation, more than any other automaker. These smart, safe, sporty models are the Mazda3 sedan and crossover, the Mazda6 sedan, the Mazda CX-3, and the Mazda CX-5.
Standard Safety Tech
Each of these models come standard with the i-ACTIVSENSE suite of advanced safety technology, which adds features that cost extra on competitor models. This means that every award-winning Mazda comes equipped with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, and handy automatic high beams. And, new for 2020, the Mazda3 and Mazda CX-3 both received automated emergency braking and updated headlights.
